The Secretary of State to the Ambassador in the United Kingdom (Bingham)
124. In response to questions at the press conference this morning regarding Associated Press despatch to the effect that the United States and Great Britain are engaged in a survey of Anglo-American trade which may bring negotiations for a reciprocal trade agreement, I made the following statement:
“There is absolutely nothing new about the casual conversations with the British representatives. They are no more than such general exchanges of information as we carry on with everybody in the world here about general economic conditions. There has been absolutely nothing said about definite conversations or conferences or negotiations, much less about any fact or factor or item that might be discussed in a trade agreement conference.”
