The Australian Minister (Casey) to the Adviser on Political Relations (Hornbeck)

Dear Hornbeck: I enclose herewith for your information a summary of a conversation46 between the Japanese Ambassador in London and the Australian High Commissioner in London, Mr. Bruce, at an interview sought by the Japanese Ambassador. Mr. Bruce says that the main impressions created in his mind, as the conversation proceeded, were the Ambassador’s desire to see the Sino-Japanese conflict liquidated and his anxiety at the possibility of Japanese action leading to the United States coming into the war.
