5150. American Interests—Allied Liberated Italy. Department’s 2388, July 12.28 Swiss report that Swiss Legation Rome transmitted through Swiss Consulate Algiers message indicating it continues protect American interests Allied liberated areas of Italy on basis of instructions given by Swiss Foreign Office at request Allied authorities. Swiss Legation Home continues pay relief qualified Americans.

Swiss Foreign Office official states orally courier Bern-Algiers again functioning and anticipates that documentation and relief applications submitted by Americans in subject areas will be forwarded Bern via that mail channel. Accordingly Swiss willing employ same channel in forwarding Legation’s relief and documentation decisions.

In view foregoing please instruct whether ultimate sentence Department’s telegram under reference may be considered canceled.29
