61. Department’s 28, May [April] 30, 4 p.m. The Prime Minister has requested me to telegraph a message in the following sense to be transmitted to ex-Ambassador Morgenthau:
The Prime Minister appreciates Mr. Morgenthau’s interest in Greece and wishes to thank him. The Government’s policy is directed toward internal peace and friendship between the political parties and every effort is being exerted to achieve that purpose. The Government is doing its best to the end that sanctions may be as few as possible.
