The Chargé in France (Marriner) to the Secretary of State

260. Senator Abel Gardey deposited with the Senate on March 26 the report in the name of the Finance Committee concerning the double taxation treaty. This report was ordered printed and appears this morning. The opinion of the Foreign Affairs Committee was requested on this report and its report favorable to the conclusion of the Finance Committee was deposited yesterday evening in the Senate by Senator Reynaldy.

As Parliament may adjourn tomorrow I yesterday got in touch with M. Laval⁴⁶ who informs me this morning that he is going himself before the Senate this afternoon in an effort to put the treaty through.

Texts of the reports which follow the lines of that of the Chamber’s Committee on Finance transmitted with Embassy’s despatch 1664, March 1, 1935,⁴⁷ will be forwarded by mail.
