The Secretary of State to the Finnish Minister (Järnefelt)

Sir: In your note of February 1, 1935, you communicated to me the information that a complete record regarding the claims for the detention of thirteen Finnish sailing vessels was handed to the Legal Adviser of the Department on January 30, 1935.

I now inform you that the answer of the United States to the claim growing out of the alleged detention by the United States of thirteen Finnish sailing vessels was today handed in triplicate to Doctor Sigurd von Numers, Secretary of your Legation.10

In view of the answer handed to Doctor von Numers, it is not deemed necessary specifically to answer your predecessor’s note of December 20, 1934,11 relating to the claim. The answer handed to [Page 207] Doctor von Numers may be regarded as an answer to any question raised in the note of December 20, 1934, as well as to other questions dealt with in the answer of the United States.
