Memorandum by the Under Secretary of State (Phillips)

The Austrian Minister39 called to inform me officially of the arrival on February 15th of an Austrian Trade Commission, which will consist of four members and a secretary. The Minister mentioned the name of three members—Mr. Boehler, president of the Boehler Foundry Company; Mr. Kuffler, president of the largest textile undertaking, and Mr. Granichstadten.40 The secretary is Count Seefried, a great-grandson of Emperor Francis Joseph. The mission will remain in the United States for one month. From New York they will come to Washington, then proceed to St. Louis, Chicago, etc., etc.

The Minister has just received instructions to delay his scheduled leave of absence for one month, that is, until the Trade Commission terminates its work.
