File No. 033.1611/1.

The President of Salvador to the President.

[Translation.—The original was delivered by the Minister on May 10.]

Great and Good Friend: The honoring visit of courtesy made in the early days of this month by his excellency the Secretary of State of your great nation, Mr. Philander C. Knox, in the name of your enlightened Government of which that statesman forms part, and the words of frank and true friendship he spoke to us on that most auspicious occasion in Your Excellency’s name, have largely contributed to the strengthening of the good relations existing between Salvador and the United States of North America, and, desiring to voice the sentiments of gratitude by which my Government and the Salvadoran people are animated, I have decided to commission Señor Don Frederico Mejía, Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary, so that he will appear on a Special Mission before Your Excellency to utter those sentiments.

This happy occasion affords me the welcome satisfaction of assuring Your Excellency of the homage of the most distinguished consideration with which I subscribe myself

Your true and good friend,

Manuel E. Araujo.
