Mr. Blaine to Mr. Shannon.

No. 44.]

Sir: The Department has received your No. 45 of 7th ultimo, in which you inclose a copy of your note presenting to the Government of Salvador the claim of Henry R. Myers, former consul at San Salvador, for losses and damage resulting from acts of the troops of that Government in July, 1890.

The response of Señor Gallegos appears to be in a friendly spirit; and a satisfactory outcome, as befits the friendly relations of the two Governments, is confidently awaited.

I am, etc.,

James G. Blaine.
