The United States recognized the Republic of Cameroon on January 1, 1960, when U.S. Consul General at Yaounde Bolard More notified Cameroon authorities that the post was being elevated to an Embassy. On that same date, the United Nations ended the Trusteeship over Cameroon that had been administered by France.
